You just had a great job interview. You really hope you get the job. What is left for you to do but hope and pray? You need to write a thank you note. But you don't know how to write a thank you letter after a job interview? Don't worry, you can quickly learn.
First, make sure you have some clean typing paper. Now sit down at your computer or type writer (yes, some people still uses these) and begin.
Should you write a formal or informal thank you letter? The answer depends on the type of interview you had. But most job interviews are formal.
You should start the letter as you would any business letter, type at the top:
Date,
Address of the company or person
Dear (insert the interviewer's name).
Now the letter itself begins.
First, state something like: Thank you for taking the time to interview me. I know you are a busy man/woman.
Of course, the second paragraph would depend on what was discussed during the interview. You could try something like: "I enjoyed learning more about the job opening, the company, etc. After listening to you talk I am even more sure that I would like to be considered for this position." This could and should be modified as needed.
Now you can repeat some of what you told the interviewer previously about yourself or what is on your resume such as:
As we discussed, my current job has given me the strong writing skills and have taught me how to work independently. I know these are two skills that will be needed in this position.
Now express again, your thanks for the interviewer taking his/her time speaking with you. You look forward to speaking with him/her again and hopefully working with him/her soon.
Your last step is to sign your name.
That is one example on how to write a thank you letter after a job interview. Your next question may be when should you write it? The best response time is within 24 hours of your interview.
