Travel: Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon – Dive Into a World of Discovery

(Wed Nov 26th, 2008, by Naveen Marasinghe)

Offering a world of marine discovery, The Underwater World at Sentosa Singapore is a truly amazing and awe-inspiring spectacle. With a dazzling number of aquatic creatures located below ground, this underwater wonderland is truly a breathtaking sight. Home to over 2, 500 fishes over 250 species, the first item on the tour agenda includes the Touch Pool where visitors can waddle and swim amongst starfish, sting rays and baby sharks. Moving further below to the underwater experience, visitors are able to walk down the spectacular 83-meter long tunnel, which offers a close up view of these splendid nautical creatures in their own habitat. As majestic manta rays, sharks, and other magnificent specimens swim overhead, visitors are sure to be dazzled by the beauty of the secrets of The Underwater World.

Another attraction that is situated along the coast further away from The Underwater World, the Dolphin Lagoon is another Singaporean favourite. Housing the delightful pink dolphins, also known as the Indo-Pacific Humpbacked dolphins, visitors can be amazed by the wonders and intelligence of these marine creatures. Dolphins being mammals and extremely intelligent, are loved by all due to their peaceful and playful nature. The ‘Swim with Dolphins’ activity is a popular crowd favourite, where visitors are given the chance to swim, play and be closer to these charming dolphins. Under the guidance of a trainer, visitors can view the characters of these wonderful mammals as they display husbandry and natural behaviour such as waving their fins, balancing a basketball and whistling. With the help of the Dolphin Lagoon trainer, learn how to feed them as well as to give hand cues to instruct these intelligent creatures to perform such acts as spy-hopping, tail-walking and vocalization.

Offering visitors a dazzling of sights and sounds, other activities at The Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon include Marine Discovery, Dive with the Sharks, Dive with Dugong, and Dive with Sharks and Dugong. Visitors who purchase tickets for Underwater World, also receive admission to Dolphin Lagoon. Tickets are priced at SGD 22.90 for adults, SGD 14.60 for children between the ages of 3 to 12 years of age, and free admission is offered for toddlers below the age of 3 years. With a total touring time of 1.5 hours, beholders can be enthralled by the wonderments of this awe-inspiring marine environment.

Arrange to stay at a luxury resort in Singapore when opting for lavish and comfortable accommodation. Opt for the Sentosa Island Resort and take in the convenience of being located close to a wonderland of marine discovery. The Sentosa Island Hotel is a luxuriously furbished and provides impeccable services, and is a magnificent sight inside and out.
