We arrived at Omar airport in the early afternoon. We had bought the essential tourist cards in the airport. It costed us not very expensive - just 3 balboas, as the dollars are called in Panama. After that we caught a taxi and rode more than 18 miles to our hotel. The ride in the unairconditioned car was not very comfortable and convenient and it was quite expensive. But there was an advantage: the driver was very sociable and friendly and also he spoked English, so he told us a lot of interesting about the city. When we have arrived to the hotel, I bought a guidebook and thumbed it through, reading the short history of the Panama City. The city was found in 1519 be Pedro Arias Davila. Pedro Davila used the city as a store of Incan gold before its delivering to Spain. In the year 1671 the Panama City was destroyed by a big group of pirates led by the captain Henry Morgan. In a year the Panama City was totally rebuilt in another place, that was situated 18 miles away from the original place and was protected with a tall strong wall.
Nowadays the Panama City is famous for its variety of tastes in food. The food choices in Panama City range from the fast food to delicious and savoury international cuisine. Ready to begin our sightseeing we caught a bus. The interesting fact is that the Panama`s buses are the points of interest themselves. They are quite cheap, but very attractive: brightly coloured, with an unusual fringe and the nice music inside. The first place we visited was a Plaza independencia. This is the main square of the town. The Plaza is bordered by the cathedral and Archbishop Palace, which nowadays has a post office inside. After this main sightseeing we returned to the hotel and had a meal in one of the best restaurants in the Panama City, which is famous for its delicious seafood dishes.
