Travel: Savour delicious cuisine at accommodation Mozambique

(Tue May 24th, 2011, by Theoline)

One of the first things one associates with accommodation  in Mozambique is the potential to savour famous cuisine at the source. Lourenço Marques (LM) prawns, renowned for their mouthwatering size and taste are found in the waters off Mozambique on the southeast Africa coast.

Accommodation in Mozambique, is found in the city that gives the delicious food its name. While the city was named Lourenço Marques during Portuguese rule, it is now known as Maputo. But, there's no escaping tradition. The name for the tasty dish remains LM prawns (also known as Mozambique prawns) – after all, the name ‘Maputo prawns' doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Size counts when it comes to this seafood − the larger, the better. LM prawns should be served cleaned, de-veined, with their tails intact, and are usually marinated in peri-peri before being placed under the grill.
Prawns Naçionale is a variation on the theme, for which chefs will marinate the succulent specimens in beer, bay leaf, cilantro, butter, lard, lemon juice, salt and the inevitable peri-peri.

Those aren't the only jewels you'll find in the oceans near accommodation in Mozambique. The sea life is the source of endless joy and wonder for hundreds of scuba divers and snorkellers, who can imagine nothing better than drifting below the water's surface among the brightly coloured fish and exquisite coral reefs. When it comes to stress relief, enthusiasts of this sport give diving in Mozambique a big thumbs up.

For an idyllic tropical island holiday destination, Inhaca Island, Pemba and the Bazaruto Archipelego are top on their list of places to visit. The Bazaruto Archipelego is a national park comprising five unspoilt islands off the coast near accommodation in Mozambique. Deep-sea fishing and salt water fly-fishing can also be enjoyed there.

Pemba is located on the third largest bay in the world and is favoured among divers for its pink coral reef close to shore. There is as much to appreciate on-shore as underwater. The palm-fringed beaches are pristine and you might even be able to climb a palm tree, using the carved notches as foot- and handholds, to retrieve some coconuts.

In fact, if it's coconuts you want, you'll have to leave your accommodation in Mozambique to see the millions of palm trees that grow in the ancient port town of Quelimane. There are more than 12 million of them!
