Nurturing population of around a million people, it is home to people who live a life full of stouthearted and ingenious. The ambiance of the area speaks volumes about the life that is led by the people of the Dharavi - arduous yet exiguous. Still the heart warming people of the Shadow of Mumbai.
Believed to be the standing on the predominant mangrove swamps, it is sandwiched between the western and central suburban railway lines. A marshy land turned dump ground turned Sub City, Dharavi. This area caters to local manufacturing of soaps, bakery products. Amidst the thin strips of lanes and by-lanes, one can find bantam tailoring shops and even petite cyber cafes. In the monsoons this area is transformed into a swamp due to cataclysm because of the poor drainage system.
Though the country is supposed to be developing but the plight of these people seems to be getting worse. They are definitely attracting great attention from the tourists, due to the intimidating life that is led by these people. These fly plagued areas suffer from acute shortage of drinking water, which is clearly visible if you the long line near the local hand pump. Same is the case with the toilets of this humongous colony. When you take a walk between the chunks of tinted roofed houses, you will find how complacent these people are. The sorrow and merriment go hand in hand, you will get to know the real meaning of life, which is not just confined to earning money. Its about living and enjoying the small wonders that life offers in little amounts.
