The Kashmir valley is gifted with enticing natural beauty of landscape and water bodies. The most famous of them is Dal Lake. Dal Lake is one the most beautiful and pictureque lakes in India. It is the second largest lake in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake itself is connected to a number of other lakes of the Kashmir valley. It is the Jewel in the crown of the Kashmir and is eulogised by poets and praised abundantly by the tourists. The three sides of the lake are surrounded by majestic mountains and a large number of gardens and orchards have been laid along the shores. The embankments of Dal Lake also house a number of Mughal monuments and the campus of the University of Kashmir. Further beautifying the scenery of the lake are two hillocks that house the famous shrine of Shankaracharya and Hari Parbat temples.
