Our preference is to get the sharpest part of the route earlier in the day, such as steep bills can be surprisingly difficult and time-consuming, after all, when your legs are tired. Directions of the paths are sometimes selected on this basis. For example, Fairfield Horseshoe from steep climb to Nab Scar and gradually decreasing up to Dove Crag Ambleside and the left end of the walk.
