Online craps is a highly popular casino game due, in part, to the relatively low house
edge, making it easier for you to win money! The game involves betting money against
the house/dealer/online casino on the outcome of a roll, or series of rolls, of two dice.
Players take it in turns to roll two dice, with the player who is rolling at the time being
referred to as the shooter. Online craps is played in rounds and the first roll of any round
is called the come-out roll.
As a fast-paced and exciting game, online craps may at first seem slightly daunting to
beginners, but don’t be put off – it is not as hard to master as might first appear! There are
about 40 different bets that can be made in an online craps game but, as many of those
bets offer poor odds, it is not necessary to be familiar with them all when you first play
craps online. You should simply ensure you are familiar with the basic rules and that you
have a decent understanding of the most important bet of all; the pass line bet.
The Pass Line Bet
The pass line bet is one that offers a nice low house edge; 1.41% and so you are more
likely to make some decent winnings if you have a fair understanding of this pretty simple
bet.
* Place your bet in the place marked “pass” on the craps table/layout.
* If the dice roll a total of seven or eleven you win.
* A total of two, three or twelve means you lose this round.
* If any other number is rolled it becomes the point number.
* If the point number is now rolled before a seven you win even money on your pass line
bet.
* If a seven is now rolled before the point number, you lose this round.
* If any other number is rolled at this stage, the dice will continue to be rolled until it
produces a point number or a seven.
For example; dice are rolled by a new shooter for the first time (a come-out roll) which
land on a 5 and a 3, making a total of eight. 8 now becomes the point number. The same
shooter now rolls an 8 before a seven and wins their pass line bet.
They can now roll again. This next roll is the start of a new round and the same rules
apply as the first time the shooter performed a come-out roll.
Odds Bet
Once the point number has been established, craps players are able to make another
additional bet. This particular bet is made behind the pass line and is known as the odds
bet. This craps bet is in fact the only bet you will find in any casino game that doesn’t have
a house advantage – because true odds are paid out.
You will find that the majority of offline and online casinos offer double odds on this kind
of craps bet, which lets you place a bet twice the size of your pass line bet. For example, if
your pass line bet is £4 then you can make an odds bet of £8.
An odds bet is paid out in the following way:
* When the point number is 4 or 10, the odds bet pays 2 to 1
* Point number: 5 or 9, odds bet pay out: 3 to 2
* Point number: 6 or 8, odds bet pay out: 6 to 5.
Remember that the simplest craps bet by far is the pass line bet and understanding this
bet will set you off on your way to becoming a true craps lover! There are many other bets
that you can make in online craps but the best way to familiarise yourself with the game
and its rules is to get playing and take advantage of all the fantastic free plays that online
casinos offer.
