Spammers make their living finding email addresses from the Internet, off mailing lists, and by hacking in to computer databases. They also spend time trying to get passed spam blockers that could potentially cause them to lose money. Since these filters have become more sophisticated, spammers have had to invent new ways to send email and make sure it reaches its destination. Spammers sell products, subscriptions, as well as steal personal information and spread viruses. They used to earn more money, but thanks to spam blockers, savy Internet users, and new laws, spamming has lost its appeal for many and also caused those who linger to lose lots in potential profits.
Spammers have now invaded blogging web sites and other blogging forums in an attempt to sell their goods to people who check these blogs. This has caused for new laws to be made which may punish those who pretend to be someone else. People who masquerade as bloggers could face harsh penalties. Many spammers have turned to using pictures instead of words to get passed the spam blockers. While this has worked for now, new software is currently being developed that will detect spam in picture form.
For the spammer, getting passed a spam blocker was their biggest challenge. Nowadays, they have to more creative about getting people to order from them as well. Many people do not even open email that does not look familiar. This has caused many spammers to rethink how they send email. If a person does not open an email, then it is a waste to spammers and the people who pay them to advertise their products. In the end, spammers need to stay one step ahead of technology. This is not easy and it is a battle they will eventually lose. A good spam blocker can detect most spam and even mark items that are not spam.
