Firstly let me say few words about phishing. Phishing attacks use both social engineering and technical subterfuge to steal consumers personal identity data and financial account credentials. Social-engineering schemes use 'spoofed' e-mails to lead consumers to counterfeit websites designed to trick recipients into divulging financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames, passwords and social security numbers. Hijacking brand names of banks, e-retailers and credit card companies, phishers often convince recipients to respond. Technical subterfuge schemes plant crimeware onto PCs to steal credentials directly, often using Trojan keylogger spyware. Pharming crimeware misdirects users to fraudulent sites or proxy servers, typically through DNS hijacking or poisoning.
In simple words they are trying to rob you. I have made some TIPS how to avoid the phishing scams.
1. Use spam-blocking software
2. Never open unknown messages
3. Almost all big online financial companys never ask personal details in email
4. Try always type url in new browser window
5. If you received strange call from a bank or other company say them taht you will call back.
6. Initially trust no-one - This might sound ridiculous but it's the ebst rule
The main point to avoid phishing attacks is " How to stop SPAM "
Scammers use spaming software to send you all junk but there is a way to stop it. I personaly use
SPAMWASHER
This is great tool to stoping all junk mail. Invest your time and read some articles about phishing attacks that will help you to avoid them.
The great site is www.antiphishing.org all about phishing attacks with examples.
