LONDON - Paul Scofield , the towering British stage actor who won international fame and an Academy Award for the film "A Man for All Seasons," has died. He was 86.
The passing of great men like Scofied leaves such a void. These are men who put aside titles and false pride and see others as their equal. JFK was not a perfect man, maybe not even a good man, but he understood our needs. Even though he had never worried about paying a utility bill, he could relate. Then there are those like George W. Bush and Tony Blair who, despite their self-serving ways and indifferences to our suffering, still attract fools like a cow pile attracts flies. I fault myself here for even mentioning Bush and Blair in the same article with the late Mr. Scofied.
