Social Issues: Firefly Locums Recommend a Friend Scheme

(Wed Jul 7th, 2010, by Victoria Lloyd)

London based Social Care Recruitment Company, Firefly Locums, are encouraging their candidates to advise their friends of social work.

Whether or not you enjoyed the Labour days, they at least made attempts to get people interested in becoming qualified social workers. They introduced a scheme called "Step Up To Social Care." It had some success, but now, a social care recruitment company are taking things into their own hands, and encouraging their candidates to spread the work on their services and the benefits of becoming a qualified social worker.

The association generally made with being a social worker is that it is a thankless task. Qualified social workers, particularly those in Child Protection, can face devastating circumstances almost on a daily basis. In addition, when something terrible happens the public are quick to place blame on the very people who are helping them. But the success of the scheme proves that locum social work is, on the contrary, very rewarding.

The direct.gov website supports this idea: "Isn't social care work very demanding and stressful?" - not true, sometimes it's challenging but workers in this sector say the work is hugely rewarding because they can make a real difference to people's lives"

A career in social work can be very varied, you can choose which field you would like to specialise in, be it working with adults, children, the elderly, those with learning disabilities. The role can also be extremely practical, working in residential homes, hospitals, schools and visiting people in their homes. There has also recently been an emphasis on providing qualified social workers with comprehensive and ongoing training.

Furthermore, Firefly Locums put a great deal of effort in creating a sense of community amongst their candidates, providing evenings where social workers can exchange experiences and bond with others in their profession.

The recommend a friend scheme rewards their candidates with a £200 referral bonus for each qualified social worker  and £100 for each unqualified social worker placed.
