"Fiela's Child" is a fiction book, written by Dalene Matthes. This novel tells the story of a white boy, brought up in the family of black people. One day he is taken away by the white family, which is supposed to be his real family. At first the boy tries to do his best to fight against his moving, but finally he realizes that nothing depends on him and he has to put up with the decision.
In the meantime a white boy is found and brought up by the black woman in the Kloof. This woman loved her boy very much. They had the relationships of a real mother and son, in spite of the fact that they had different race. The boy, Benjamin Komoetie, was really happy in his black family. One day the authorities of the village sent several people to the country to count all the population, living there. Appearing in the house of Komoetie family, they signed the names of all the members and Fiela did not have other choice except telling the name of her white child. When the man were about to leave, they suddenly saw this boy and Fiela was forced to tell them the story, how this boy appeared in her family. One of the men suddenly remembered the story about a child, missed nine years ago and decided to take Benjamin to the village.
Barta and Rooyen, real parents of the boy, recognized their son and decided to take him in his real family. For the first time it was quite difficult for boy to live in his new family and get accustomed to his new relatives and parents. His new father beat him several times, so his life in the family started with difficulties, which he had to overcome. Later on, his life with new family really improved, but still he felt a foreigner in it.
