1. Make your network your friends- For any one truly wishing to be a successful networker, this is by far the mist important tip you will ever hear. Have you ever been turned off by a sales person who just tries to sell without getting to know you first. So why not just try and get to know people first and make some friends. If you make friends, you make more sales.
2. Show Integrity- Never just try and make a quick sale without getting to know the business you are selling to. Never convince someone to buy a product from you when you know it is the wrong fit for their business. This is the quickest way to ruin your reputation.
3. Don't promise if you cannot deliver- Sometimes it is easy to fall in to the trap of promising someone at a networking event something you know they want to hear. But what happens when you cannot deliver on that promise. You look pretty stupid don't you.
4. Be genuine- So many people when they get into a networking event will put on their 'networking face.' They'll be all slick and smooth, but then you meet them away from the event and things aren't all the way they seemed. Its better to be genuine from the beginning, as people will be able to tell you are genuine and hence trust you more.
5. Remember who you are and why you are there- You are at a networking event, you are not selling door-to-door. The purpose of everything you do should be to develop your network first and foremost. If you don't make a sale on the night it doesn't mean you have failed. Building networks will be much more productive in the future.
6. Take it one step at a time- Boosting your income from networking can take time. If you go in expecting instantaneous profits you are almost always bound to fail. Even if it takes one or two years, the rise in profits from a well developed network will be most worth the effort.
