There is a buzz going around at the moment in seo circles with the anticipation of the next google page rank update. All I have heard during the last three weeks from various friends around Europe is that this update is imminent, one of these friends actually predicted that it would take place on July 27th. So when will it take place and is it really that important and worth all of the fuss that these webmasters are making?
Having a website which has a high page rank of six or seven can feel quite rewarding and is a way of showing to potential clients or customers that the site is well respected and trusted by google. This can only have a positive affect on overall sales.
To have gained such a high page rank will have probably taken a large number of webmasters to place a link on their website pointing to the site in question. All of these backward links are like a vote for the site and this helps it to climb up the search engine rankings.
For these reasons I believe that the page rank of a website is important. I don't, however, get all hot and bothered, like many other webmasters seem to, whilst waiting for the page rank update to take place. I prefer to continue the promotion of each of my websites and am more than happy to hear that it has taken place via a phone call from one of my friends.
I have recently read, on one of the seo forums, that other webmasters want google to do away with page rank completely. I think that it would be a great shame if this were to happen.
I personally believe that the update will take place in the first two weeks of September. In the mean time I would advise people to concentrate on marketing their site/sites instead of worrying about when the update will take place.
