SE Optimization: Significance of Links and How To Effectively Build Them

(Tue Jul 20th, 2010, by Raul Quiroga)

Links are very important in any SEO strategy and the number of links you have on your site also has a huge significance to your search engine rankings. A link serves a s a vote and measures relevance of your site. Internal links can guarantee that a search engine crawler can easily get to the different pages in your site whereas a dangling link is a link that leads to a page with no links leading to it.

How do you achieve many votes or links to your site? There are various strategies you can implement which are proven to be effective and is being widely practiced by search engine optimizers.

  1. Link Exchange – this is by far the oldest method of getting inbound links. It involves a thorough study of the market you are involved in. After analyzing your target market, you may then want to connect with each site you discover and request for a link back to your site. This may take some time as some website owners have little time to do it or may just wish to ignore your request. This will require a lot of time on your end but with less return on your efforts.
  2. Article Marketing – this is one of the most effective methods of achieving inbound links.  You need to create good, precise and informative articles. Anyone who wants to use it may have to include a paragraph of information at the bottom that will give credit for you and a link back to your site. This works well because websites are always on the look for good content to include on their pages.
  3. Blogs – another way to get links back to your site is from bloggers. The way to do it is to contact the blogger with information about your company, product or services you offer or any information that you believe will interest them. This information will give the blogger something to use in his or her regular posts.
  4. Press Releases – one of the biggest stronghold in any marketing program. They are use to send out information about new products or services. They can be so effective that some companies would even hire people to distribute their press releases in as many sites as possible. When you write a press release, make sure to put a link back to your site and circulate it to as many online press release directories as possible.

Inbound links are so valuable as a linking strategy and is certain to increase your search engine rankings. Most companies are even so caught up in the process of learning who is linking back to them. And one way to get information at is through your web-analytics program. Links on your site will definitely affect the amount of traffic you get on your site. Beware though not to go overboard that you will be tagged as doing a link farm.
