Vishnu, the preserver, is thought to have taken birth as Lord Rama. Rama is the important character in Ramayana, one of the two important Hindu Epics, so he is famous among all Hindu devotees. Rama embodies righteousness, kindness and valor. He is the prince of Ayodhya and son of Dasaratha and Kausalya. It is thought that Lord Rama took birth in Suryavansha in Treta Yuga, the 2nd Yuga.
After performing the Putrakameshti Yaga only, Dasaratha got his four sons- Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Goddess Sita - a perfect woman, who is considered to be Lakshmi's human form, is Lord Rama's wife.
The Reason behind Rama's Birth
It is believed that Bhumidevi asks help from Lord Brahma, to put an end to the cruel rule of the Asura kings on Earth. Her resources were destroyed by Asura kings. The devas were also disturbed by the Asura King Raavana, emperor of Lanka, as he had taken control over the Heaven and began ruling, besides Earth and Paatala. Raavana had several boons from the sages, which safeguarded him and gave him ten heads. Even though he has a good character, after attaining power, he became arrogant and captures the world. To solve Bhumidevi's and deva's problem, Lord Brahma went along with them to Vishnu for help.
Vishnu wanted to kill Raavana and end his rule and make the world free from troubles. As the son of Dasaratha, Vishnu takes birth in Ayodhya. Vishnu's wife, Lakshmi takes the form of Sita in the kingdom of Mithila Janaka's daughter. Vishnu appears in his original form only after Rama kills Raavana and wins the war.
Rama and Dharma
Rama is known as Maryada Purushottama. People mean that, he is just, kind and follows the path of dharma. Rama's life is is an example of life based on dharma. Irrespective of all the problems he has met in his life, he sticks to righteousness. He is the perfect man. He abandons the Kosala kingdom, in order to obey his father. His wife Sita and younger brother Lakshmana follow him.
There is an example in Ramayana which display the perfect behaviour of Rama. That's when he asks Sita to take Agnipariksha. It was only after seeing that Sita is pure, that Rama welcomes her. Ayodhya prospered when Rama ruled the kingdom. People were very happy with their just king.
