The Politics of Survival
By Mark_E_Henry
So the big attack against Barack Obama comes down to "He lacks experience." Is that all they've got? So what if he does. We've dealt with presidents that were sneaky, greedy, stupid, detached from the common people and warmongers that would send 85% of the people of this nation into poverty to cater to a small, rich, few. Those presidents have been experienced republicans that each put private gain over public obligation and special interests over the common good. At this point, the American economy, global ecology and world peace are all on the brinks of extinction. This is not the time to cling to political party loyalties, race based decisions or the blindness that has led the U.S. economy into its current sorry state. This is the time for rational individuals to honestly evaluate where we as a nation and as a planet are headed in the immediate future.
We are approaching a $1 trillion annual trade deficit. We have record high energy prices coupled with record high energy company profits. The American people overall have achieved a negative savings rate and on average are in debt to credit card companies for $9,000 apiece. America runs secret prisons and a secret judicial system. The coral in the world's oceans are dying. 50 million Americans can't afford medical insurance. We are now $75 billion out of pocket in Afghanistan and making no progress. The Iraq war was launched on lies and it has now cost us over $300 billion and continues to cost $6 billion and countless lives and injuries per month to civilian families, children and soldiers that joined up with the intentions to honorably serve. AMERICA IS BROKE. In 2001 there was a national surplus but in less than five it became a national debt of $8.2 trillion dollars. Since 2001, the nation lost nearly 3.3 million manufacturing jobs and as we speak, IT jobs are being outsourced to companies in other countries, an occurrence that is illegal in much of the world for obvious reasons. The current administration has benefited the wealthiest few at the expense of the vast majority of people at middle and low incomes, shifting a significant proportion of the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class as republican administrations have done since the 1960's. From 2001 to the present marks the only period of sustained job loss for women in the last 40 years and the entire national real estate market has completely collapsed.
So what exactly is it that Barack Obama lacks experience in? Destroying both the nation and world? Well good for him and even better for us. It's way past time for change. In fact, if things don't change soon there won't be a world left to change. Change requires a fresh perspective, not someone in such a twisted mental state as to want to continue the policies that have led us to where we are today; at the edge of extinction.
I hear people saying things like, "Oh I could never vote democrat, they believe in abortion and gay rights." COME ON PEOPLE!!!! Everything on Earth is a mix of both good and bad, political parties are no exception. If the choice comes down to the complete collapse of our nation through wars and the inability of the American people to keep roofs over our heads, spend money, drive cars or see doctors versus an individual's decision to abort a pregnancy or two people of the same sex to unleash their attraction towards one another, how about choosing to vote for our continue existence!
Barack Obama thinks outside of the box. He can't think inside of the box because he's never been it, thank goodness. He has hope for this country, dreams for this country and wants to take it to where it has never been before; a place where the administration strives to benefit ALL of the people. That's what the founding fathers put on paper but....here we are today.
Can a seventy six year wheezing old former POW and George Bush follower, lead this nation into a new, bright era of world peace, economic recovery, & global repair? Not even close. When George Bush is finally gone, let's watch his failed policies and wars go with him by taking a new direction and a chance on someone young and bright enough to still have hope, dreams, decency and the possibility of actually pulling us out of this failed Republican mess, at the eleventh hour. Not because he's black but because he's a better person and candidate; the one person that might actually facilitate our survival and start our recovery.
