Politics: Democracy In Pakistan An Ugly Nightmare

(Wed Jul 14th, 2010, by Mohammad Mansoor Ali Ansari)

No one can deny that today Judiciary and Journalism are facing tough revenge from the Democratic Government in Pakistan.

It is hard to speculate that this new monstrous conflict born out of the resolution against the media passed by the Punjab Provincial Assembly would end without eating up any or both of the parties of the ruling coalition. The mistakes over mistakes and complete miscalculation of assault initiated against an emerging but strong media and the judiciary has shaken the pillars of an ever weakening ruling coalition.

Analyzing the present crisis that is building more aggressively like a tornado is causing panic in the lines of the present democratic setup. I had already alarmed the cruising changes that many analysts also foresee since last few days. In these tense moments the strength of an opposition party standing outside the parliament is multiplying with electric speed. This party is Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf.  Receiving mixed reaction after the appearance of my previous article "Imran Khan the new Chief Executive of Pakistan", the situation now shows clear signs of toppling of present democratic setup. As predicted, one of the Shareefs have already left the country and it looks difficult that Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be able to handle the after shocks of Data Darbar's massacre and now the assault over independent news media and the brave journalists.

Pakistan Peoples Party also tried hard to gain an edge over Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) on this issue but it can never relieve itself from a clear allegation that it did not oppose the dirty resolution when it was presented in the Punjab Assembly. Now both PPP and PML N are throwing garbage on each other without realizing that they both are making each full of ugly stains.

Now the time is quite near when the mistakes and miscalculations of both PPP and PML N are taking the whole nation to a suicidal ditch. Today the investment in the country is next to zero and no foreign investor is willing to put his money in a country that is seeing the worst downfall in the history due to ugly and criminal confrontation of Parliament with Judiciary and the Media. The sand is slipping out of our hands and the ignorance of these money thirsty leaders who entered the parliament on the basis of forged educational degrees have blackened the image of political parties and broke the trust of common man on these politicians and on this crumbling system.

It is true that if Imran Khan would accept any offer for a back door entry to take up the Government in control, it would hurt his quest to win the premiership on fair grounds. But the question is, will he be able to stand at a distance to see his country falling into eternal misery that too for a complete collapse?

MQM though a strong contender in the future transitional setup that would run the matters for a longer period, but the establishment does not seem ready to accept this party to solely lead the nation purely due to some ethnic reservations and the background attached to the arms race and target killings.

Sheikh Rasheed's Awami Muslim League is also a name that is being suggested to become the part of transitional setup. However, the possibility is grim because his party is in the stage of infancy and has little roots in the important urban cities and other constituencies. But it is also a fact that sincerity of Sheikh Rasheed is unquestionable because he is no doubt a brave person who has a sharp eye with an electric brain that understands the changing situation. It would be an added feather if Sheikh Rasheed would join the transitional setup and would help the new leadership in formulating the policies for the betterment of the nation and the poor masses in particular.

I would once again say that Imran Khan should not kick away the role offered to him. However he should accept this offer only when perfect assurances are given to him, which are actually being offered to him as credible sources reveal. The only hurdle left is his arrogance towards US administration and his defiance to accept any sort of dictation. But it is also true that flexibility from Imran Khan and the US Government would open the gate for a leader that is being so anxiously awaited by the nation to take the hot seat. His taking the transitional government would provide him an opportunity to prove his worth like other famous leaders did when they were granted such opportunity by God and they proved that they can change the tide and the direction of wind. The example of Hugo Chavez the Venezuelan leader is worth following. Today people would not mind any change no matter it would come from a back or front door. They are thirsty for a sigh of relief. It would also be an alternate solution to finalize the transitional setup if Imran Khan would nominate any suitable person from his party's core leadership to run the matters till the time new elections would become necessary. Besides all the alternate possibilities I must say that Imran Khan should be the person who should bravely come forward to take the control of this ship that is caught in thunder storm.

It is now proven and sealed the present setup cannot run for few months. It is also visible that the support of USA is not enjoyed by these leaders and they are throwing firecrackers to vow that no one can destabilize their democracy. It is also true that people of Pakistan never dreamed for democracy which they are facing now when their leaders have become a shameful symbol of forgery and misrepresentation. The trust on this system is already lost and there is no other solution but to bring a transitional setup with new and stainless leadership.

Finally I would say that every eye is now set to see the fall of present Government at any moment. It is the wish of every Pakistani now that trouble free transitional government would run the show for a fairly longer period to relieve the poor and dieing people from the claws of blood thirsty leaders of PPP and PML N.
