Bush's Own Words
"We'll get the Job Done"
by: Arleen M. Kaptur
When pressed if an attack in Pakistan would
be launched, President Bush said the most
amazing thing - We'll get the job done. Okay,
is the job to be done like in Afghanistan, or the
job in Iraq. This is quite a choice.
If the "We'll get the job done" means that the
toll on human life would be comparable, then
the world should wince at the thought. If it means
in money and weapons, then loss and "can't find
them" becomes an issue. "Mission accomplished"
was the worse media photography session in history.
The words will echo throughout the generations as
what one man thought he could do, got dressed for
the part, and found out that clothes do not make the
man or hero.
The mentality in the White House amounts to little more
than "dumber than a stick." While you may smile at the
comparison, the leader with the most power in the world
and his finger on that all important Red Button still
believes that America is winning in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He still thinks that everyone is safer here in the States and
that his administration will be a stellar example in the
history books. Congress knuckles under his pressure of
a "veto" and he invokes "executive privilege" from tying
his shoes in the morning to planning more pre-emptive
warfare around the world. Other countries, I believe, do not
really know what to make out of all this. They are afraid that
if they step in the mess in the White House, their footsteps
will lead them in the wrong direction as well.
Words carry such echoes that sometimes the din will make
you deaf. When they are your own words, you have to think
that all is not as it should be with the Top Dictator of the Land
of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Brave yes when it
comes to the citizens, free no longer, but home to some of the
most dangerous bag of nuts you could imagine.
Something to think about.
