There are a wide variety of choices when it comes to types of fish you can domesticate. One of the most popular types is the koi fish. These are colorful fish in the carp family More than 200 years ago, they were first bred in Japan. Nowadays, more and more people are hooked on koi and breeding them has been a favorite hobby of theirs. Even in some competitions and shows, these aquatic creatures are even popular. For a successful breeding, there are instructions you need to follow and these are what this article is concerned with.

The best mating season for koi is from the month of April to July. One to one ratio of males to females is ideal for breeding. An important factor that affects a koi's ability to breed easily is its age. Too old and too young koi fish are less likely to breed easily. Therefore, it is best to choose koi fish of middle ages for easy and fast breeding. When females are carrying eggs, they become bloated. At this stage, it is well for you to add males of which the sizes are similar to those of bloated females. Koi fish need your help and assistance in forming a natural nesting areawith synthetic brush and willow cutting submerged underwater.

During the reproduction process, it must be expected that the breeding pond appears cloudy and produces a bad odor. Do not be shocked or surprised at the large number of eggs a female koi fish can lay. It can go up to thousands of eggs. What you need to do with these eggs is separate them from adults to prevent them from being eaten. These eggs hatch in a week time. When the eggs are hatched and baby koi fish are already swimming, feed them as often as five times daily for the first months for a fast growth. It must be noted that less than half of baby koi will survive to adulthood. The maximum length f koi fish is 36 inches. Their size varies from one fish to another depending on the size of your fond, aeration and feeding. Another thing to keeo in mind is that breeding a koi fish can put its health at risk.

These are the instructions on how you can breed koi fish efficiently and successfully. It is important that you have good parents in order for you to get good offspring. Therefore, if you plan to buy koi fish at fish stores, you must see to it that what you buy are of high quality. In that way, you can expect from them high quality offspring too. One thing you must avoid is using more than two males since they may become too aggressive and hurt the female koi fish. Aside from the mating season mentioned above, it is also good to do breeding during a full moon. Keep all these tips and instructions in your mind so that you can be able to successfully achieve reproduction of your koi fish.
