Did it ever cross throught your thoughts to support hamsters as pets? This report's goal is to give an answer to the balance of your potential issues.
In the first place, both a mutt and a pussycat command lots of additional space as compared to hamsters as pets. For living quarters, they only need an area that is the size of a ichthys domicile (i.e. a fish tank!). It is not surprising that hamsters fit well into a minuscule railroad flat or other smallish home.
You should invest time to retain hamsters as pets. The portion of time required to care for them is about the same as it would be for a canine. Your hamsters will require food and water each day. Frequently, you must clean the potty. Daily, the hamsters require an hour of playtime. Furthermore, hamster's homes must be cleaned each week.
As far as the financial requirement, hamsters can cost as much as other pets to maintain. You will need to make an initial investment in supplies. Your hamster doesn't eat much, but you will have to buy a regular supply of bedding material. Hamsters are less susceptible to illness, but not immune. Set aside money for infrequent trips to the vet.
Hamsters as pets may or may not be cuddly. Of all the hamster species, the Syrian hamster is the most domesticated. Anticipate that the dwarf species will not be amenable to long term cuddling. Rather than being handled by their caretakers, the dwarf hamsters prefer to play "on top of" their human owners. Dwarf hamsters are speed demons.
Once your hamster is used to you being around, it will be distressed if you leave him for long periods of time. Once a hamster gets used to your voice, it will consider you part of its community. For this reason do not leave a hamster alone in your house for more than one or two days at a time.
Hamsters are also sensitive the high temperatures in the summer. You must have suitable air conditioning if you live in any climate where it will get warm. Whereas you may be able to suffer through days of 85° F (30°C), this temperature can rapidly kill your hamster. The final thing to know about keeping hamsters as pets is that hamsters are nocturnal or crespuscular. This means that they are active at night or only at dawn and twilight. Do not disturb them at times other than these.
Lastly, as long as you're willing to make the attempt, hamsters do make heart-robbing pets.
