Pets: Dog Kennels are an Overlooked Yet Essential Necessity

(Thu Apr 28th, 2011, by tedstinson55)

Owning a dog or puppy comes with a great deal of responsibilities. You need to care for them, give them plenty of exercise and provide the proper diet as well. You'll want to be sure you have all the correct and necessary dog supplies, such as toys, treats, and leashes. However, far too many dog owners often overlook buying a kennel. The reasons for owning a dog kennel outweigh the negatives you may feel about them.

Dog kennels are great for a lot of reasons. The main purpose is to keep your dog safe from itself as well as your home, family or neighbors. Also, kennels give the dog a little home in the home where they can go when they need some time to themselves. Here are a few other great benefits for purchasing a kennel for your canine:

Dog kennels are cheaper than furniture. If your dog suffers from separation anxiety while you are gone to work, there is a strong possibility that Fido can take out his or her anxiety on your new couch or carpeting, which needless to say can be quite expensive. Getting a good kennel for it to spend his or her afternoons is a safe and cheap alternative. Depending on the style and size, a kennel doesn't really cost too much, at least when compared to your new sofa.

Potty training a new puppy is much, much easier when implementing a dog kennel. Most dog owners use kennels for getting their puppy on a schedule to go potty outside and not in the house. The kennel teaches the dog that your home is not the right place to make a mess. With the dog inside the kennel, it will be unwilling to relieve itself in the kennel due to the lack of space.

If you are a frequent traveler and would like to take your pet with you in your next vacation, portable kennels are the perfect solution. They provide a safe and affordable way to travel with your dog. Placing it inside a portable kennel prevents it from distracting you while driving or running around the car unsupervised. Don't underestimate how safe this is on busy highways and roads. Also airlines will only allow pets onboard if they are securely kept in an airline certified dog kennel.

The final great reason to purchase a kennel is to use as a method for containing an aggressive dog. We all know hyperactive dogs or ones with behavioral problems cam be a handful. When they are acting up, place them in the kennel when you catch them displaying unacceptable behavior.
