Setting up and growing your subscribers list will explode your income. That's a statement you shouldn't take lightly if you want to create an income online. It helps you sell products easier then in any other possible way.
Let's rephrase it a bit: Your subscribers list will help you promote anything and make you money. But make sure you don't promote crap. Build trust.
What to write about?
The goal is to turn potential customers into real customers. Simple but true.
You shouldn't write boring stuff. You should write entertaining but informative. And no informative does not mean boring at all. And it doesn't mean you should use hype, either. Just add a sprinkle of your own personality to it.
Do you have products to offer? Tell them about it. Tell them about updates, discounts and even new ones you added to the store. Just keep them interested.
But my ezine, newsletter or whatever I want to put out what about it?
You have to avoid making people think you are spamming the living daylight out of them.
You'll also want to avoid html. People do not like it and it will cause a lot of aggravation.
Also be consistent in sending your newsletter. If you decided to do it every single week do it every single week. In this way they know when to expect your newsletter and it will give a boost to your response and read rate.
Never ever forget to add a unsubscribe link at the bottom of your emails. If they don't like your newsletter, let them op out of it. Don't stress about it.
This will save you a lot of spam complaints.
How should I promote it?
Now that's a good one. If you initially set everything up, you want to have readers to actually read your messages. But how?
The easiest way, by far, is probably ezine advertising. It works like this:
You simply spend some money, and you can either get a solo, classified, top or bottom sponsor ad. I would try to go for a solo ad as much as possible.
Do contact the owner of that list and ask them questions. Make sure you get a response so you don't waste money.
The owners of these lists usually took a lot of time and effort building and maintaining those subscribers. And they allow you, for a small fee, to tap into that list. It will help you focus on more important stuff like creating content for your newsletter.
A word of advise: Be independent and really build your list with those visitors. It's really a waste of traffic to send them to somebody else's list and leave LOTS of profits on the table.
Stay on the internet to have an idea how much each list is generating. In this way you'll know exactly which ezines you should continue to focus on (read: put money into) and which you can leave alone.
