ILLEGITIMATE PROGENITORS
By a.b. barnett
Ill-equipped, ill-prepared, ill-disposed and inauthentic, are only a few appropriate adjectives that can be used to describe the large group of feckless progenitors who teem and roam on this, otherwise, splendid Earth.
Now the onus, as I've stated in the title, lies on this crass species, and not on some innocent soul who could not perceive, either by sight, taste or smell, the hideous mound of feces to which it was being propelled.
Humans, aside from other proclivities, have always tended to blame the person who has nothing to do, at least directly, with an unfavorable incident or situation. Let's take the case of the most popular imprecation, "son of a bitch", as an eloquent example. If your scathing criticism is aimed towards a son or daughter, why do you have to disparage their mother who could be, by all accounts, a bona fide saint.
The same situation occurs when we refer to babies, even unborn ones, in a peculiarly demeaning way. Would you ever think of a newborn child as being impure, not genuine, or something false? Your answer may be, by all means, no; and yet, this is what you probably do every time you refer to a baby in this recreant manner.
There's nothing more spurious than the ill-concept of a baby being spurious, with the exception of nefarious progenitors, of course. I guess the "legitimate" wives, as well as the "legitimate kin" of the so called spurious baby, must have felt so vilified by the nativity of these "impure babies", that they became enmeshed in hatred while they sought a word they had envisioned to be duly descriptive of impurity. Hence, the tainted moniker, bastard, was excreted. An expression that, definitely, should only be applied to anyone who would dare to use such word as a reference to these infants.
There isn't and never has been, in my humble opinion, any illegitimate offspring. The only illegitimate aspect associated with a newborn would haplessly come from denatured donors some tend to call, mistakenly, parents. Nonetheless, there is, fortunately, a serum to counteract their viral effect, which allows to have them rapidly obliterated from a child's memory and thereafter, be condemned to forever remain in the vast land of oblivion.
The UNICEF Logo portrays the genuine spirit of what Legitimate Parenting should be: the spontaneously loving response of a scrupulous Mother towards the actions of her child. The response of a Nonce Love that has been defined in many ways; and to a few, God, or the Superior Spiritual Entity of choice, epitomizes said love. Love that is devoid of color, gender and nationality, while being refreshing and free-flowing as water. H2O: sheer, pure, strong, and the origin of life as we know it; this is love, this is water, this is the love of a Mother. This is, in my opinion, what the UNICEF Logo represents.
On the other hand fathers, true fathers that is, are not usually associated with the role of nurturers, which has always been, as if by forfeit, assigned only to Mothers. However, the role of nurturing Fathers has been long overdue: the ones that mentor, guide, protect and instill in their children the value of being. This could be your father ; this could be your neighbor; this could be your brother; or most likely, you.
Although the UNICEF Logo clearly outlines the silhouette of a mother with her child, men who have responsibly assumed their role as Legitimate Fathers, either by natural means, adoption, or mentoring, should not feel slighted, for they have not. They are in spirit represented by the men who participated in the design of said logo.
Moreover, the most important aspect resides not in an emblem of a flag or banner, but in the internal print that is flowing through the vessels of every Mother and Father of value, which are the antithesis of feckless beings. A print that remains heated in an eternal state of glowing ember, and will always be poised to imprint its values at the beckoning call of anyone who may be in need of parental love or a warm mentoring embrace. LET US BECOME THE FORGERS OF THIS EFFECTUALLY PERENNIAL YEN .
