After you've confirmed who is going to be your maid of honor and your bridesmaids, you still have a couple more selections to make. Often times there are girls, age 8 to 15, who want to be included in the wedding, but are too young to be a full blown bridesmaid. This is the perfect age for the position of junior bridesmaid.
This is a wonderful age to have an opportunity to be involved in such a magical affair. There are many of the bridesmaid's duties that the junior bridesmaid would also be able to attend. While the adult bridal party would be responsible for arranging the bridal shower, the junior bridesmaid could participate in many ways; helping set things up, handing the bride her presents, serving the punch, just to name a few. The bachelorette party is a little different. The junior bridesmaid may want to be included, depending upon the theme of the party.
She'll need to have a dress, which normally will be the same, or very similar, in style and color to the rest of the bridal party. She'll also carry flowers like those being carried by the bridesmaids, but perhaps on a slightly smaller scale. If she happens to be the bride's sister or daughter, she may be involved in selecting the bride's designer wedding gown.
Even though her duties in the wedding are less demanding, she'll still be attending most all of the functions the rest of the bridal party attends. She will need to participate in the wedding rehearsal and she also gets to attend the rehearsal dinner.
If the bride chooses, the junior bridesmaid can also perform usher duties before the ceremony or, again, if she's a young teenage daughter, the bride may have her in the room while she's getting into her Vera Wang original wedding gown. When the ceremony begins, she'll be part of the procession. She could be escorted down the aisle or lead the way for the bridesmaids by herself. She'll then take her place at the altar with the other attendants and stay there through the entire ceremony.
At the reception, the bride may want the junior bridesmaid to stand in the receiving line, if she is a member of the bride or groom's family. A fun assignment for the her, during the reception, would be to hand things out to the guests, such as the rice or bird seed they'll being using to send off the happy couple.
