To plan a large wedding can be stressful and you want your guests to have a good time and enjoy participating so be sure to be mindful of your guests so that you can avoid any problems that may blow up to be large than necessary because of the size of your party.
I try to think of myself attending another social event so I can image what it feels like from their perspective. I'm usually running late, and want to park as close to the event as possible since I'm carrying gifts and may have a few children in tow. I usually have a pretty good clue where I'm going but sometimes addresses are a little funny or the directions aren't as clear as they could be so have clear signs along the way is helpful. I'm also very interested in feeling welcomed by a nice large building that says "this is where I'm supposed to be." Nothing is worse than showing up and wondering if you're at the right place.
After your guests are settled you want to be sure they can join the party with your other guests easily and without any barriers. I'm a very talkative person but not with a crowd of people I don't know. If I can meet comfortably with a few people it usually spreads very quickly from there and if your guests are the same way than it would be important to create an atmosphere where they can settle in well.
What kind of party are you having? Once you know this you can better choose a building because you'll know if you having a line or not, and whether there will be a huge dance floor or just a place for some live music in the background. These differences will help you decide on the right venue because you'll better understand your needs for the building.
The issue of safety is a concern if you're planning on having many children attend, and what wedding doesn't have children. Okay some don't have children but most do so keep this in mind. When getting in and out of the building as well as during the event you want to be sure it's kid friendly for your guests to feel comfortable as well. No one wants their guests to leave early because they're frustrated by having to chase their children around and watch out for every little thing.
Most facilities are finding it easier for everyone if they provide on-site catering for your event. Some even require that you use their caterer. This isn't a bad thing but it may not be in your plans so be sure to ask if this is important to you.
Dancing is usually a part of the wedding, and if you're going to have a dj or some live music, be sure that you've got plenty of space for them. This makes for a large dance floor and gives you an opportunity to keep your guests interested in staying at your after party. Besides djs and musicians need time to setup and will need to arrive early to do so and you want them to have the room they need to move in and out.
Some facilities are just made for your wedding because they match everything else you have planned. Others are perfect because they match your budget or the location is most convenient. No matter the reason you pick it, just be sure you find a way to make it your own.
