Advertising is a beast in and of itself. It's one thing to run a marketing campaign and trying to see results, but if you're advertising and you're not a master copywriter, doom could lie ahead. You see there are a few simple principles that you should want to follow to craft an ad that will bring in lots of new customers for you.
The first thing that you will want to do is to get yourself a "swipe file". A swipe file is exactly as it sounds. It's a collection of winning ads and sales letters that you can "swipe" and piece together with other sales letters and ads - and put them altogether to create this winning ad or sales letter. This is how I started, and I think you will benefit from this technique also.
This is helpful because the next time you need a copywriting inspiration, all you have to do is take a look at these ads and piece them together to create something brilliant. Now it's important to swipe and not to steal. These 2 totally different concepts and I don't advise you stealing anyone's sales copy. You want to use these ads simply as a guide with coming up with your own sales copy. So keep that in mind.
One awesome copywriter that you will want to study is a guy by the name of Gary Halbert. Gary's letters have brought in millions and millions of dollars, and his copywriting skills are legendary. I suggest you do a Google search on this guy to take a look at how good his copywriting skills are. And the best thing about it is that it's free.
So besides the copywriting aspect of things, what other ways are there to make your ad a success? Well, I'm glad you asked. Another thing that you can do to improve your advertising results is to qualify your prospects. There are 2 ways to do this:
1) Sell a product in your ad 2) Follow up on them with your complete sales presentation
I personally like the second option better. The only time I can endorse selling a product is in your ad is if you ran a full page ad, and the product was like $10. Marketers run ads like this to qualify you as a hot buyer and then to immediately sell you on their $1,000 product. Never try to sell a product in a display ad. It's a waste of time and money.
Now the choice that you should select is option number 2: generating a lead. These are people who have voluntarily raised their hands for wanting to receive your free information. A good bit of these prospects will turn into customers, but it takes a strong follow up plan to make this happen.
In the first 30 days of your prospect raising their hand, send them your direct mail package 3 times. For every other month after that, mail to your prospects only once a month. You don't want to spam them with your message, but you do want them to recognize that you're there. So mail out to them once a month.
This is how you can make your advertising efforts pay off big for you.
Good luck with making your advertising work.
