Marketing: Marketing Your Business And Writing A Good Ad

(Thu May 19th, 2011, by Daniel Kanuck)

Marketing is a process that can get complicated at times. I know when I first started out, I had no idea of how to market my products and service - and I resorted to poor marketing practices. Luckily, (5 years later), I know what it takes to make money in my business. What about you? How are your advertising and marketing campaigns going?

If you're not seeing the sales and profits that you have hoped for, then it's probably because you're not proactive in your marketing efforts. It takes more than just advertising to bring in customers to your business. You need to know how to write ad copy that gets people to respond to you.

The good news is that you can offer something for free, and people will still respond to your ad, so that helps. But in order to bring people into your store to buy more, you need a good free offer. You could offer a free report, a free sample, a free CD, or even a free DVD to get people to come into your business.

This is actually a good idea, and you should consider implementing it if you haven't done so already. Once you have your free offer down-packed and ready, the next task is to test it. Test your ad in different publications, and see which one pulls the most for you. After you have found that one, scrap all the other publications and invest more money into the 1 publication that's giving you the most response.

At this stage, it's importance to track, track, and then track some more. You never want to run ads in different mediums and don't know how they're doing for you. This is called "blind marketing", (I just made that up), and it's not advisable if you want to stay in business for the long haul.

Speaking of running ads, if you want to see the most response and results, consider running a full page ad, or a half page ad. You want your ad to get the attention of your prospect, and this is exactly what these kinds of ads will do. When running your ads, don't forget the core principles of advertising.

For example, be sure to lead with a strong headline. Your headline makes up about 80% of the success of your ad - and it makes sense once you think about it. You have to imagine your prospect turning the page quickly, and then stopping on the page that you're ad is and stopping to read it.

You only have a few passing seconds to get their attention, so you will have to lead with a headline that clearly states the benefits of reading the rest of your ad. Make your body copy an extension of your headline, and make sure it continues to sell your prospect on doing business with you.

Last is your call to action. This is where you tell the prospect to call now or go online. It's best to offer multiple means of response because not everyone responds I the same way. But know that most of your response will be by phone.

Hopefully you will use these tips to make more money in your business.

Good luck with marketing and advertising your products and services.
