Are you currently using the internet in your offline business to get new customers? If not then you should, because it's a vital part of your entire marketing campaign. The bottom line is that leads from the internet are extremely valuable. So if you're not taking advantage of this free medium to market your business, you're missing out on a ton of potential new customers.
The thing I love about the internet the most is that advertising is cheap. You can buy an ezine ad for $50, and have it broadcasted in the ezine for an entire 30 days. You can get lots of leads with this model. Or if you're not a fan of ezines, you could run pay per click ads and target only the people in your area. This is one good use of PPC advertising, and you only get charged when people click on your ads.
One such service that you can use to implement PPC advertising is MSN Adcenter. MSN Adcenter has recently partnered up with Yahoo to give business owners a bigger database to tackle. My guess is that MSN and Yahoo teamed up to become an equal force such as Google Adwords.
I would recommend Google Adwords but unfortunately myself (and countless other business owners) have had their accounts suspended for no good reason. I don't use Google Adwords anymore - I stick to MSN Adcenter and Yahoo - and I'm seeing pretty good results.
So go and try to sign up with Google Adwords, and see if they will allow you to post your ads on there. Hopefully you won't get your account banned for any silly reason, but it's worth a shot.
Another thing that you want to do to attract prospects in your area is to sign up with Google Places. This is a service where you enter your business details and you appear up in the search engines whenever a prospects types in a query relevant to your ad.
So let's say you're a chiropractor in Los Angeles, and you wan to make Google Places work for you. What you want to do is anticipate the query that your prospect may use to find your listing. So if you're a chiropractor in Los Angeles, more than likely search terms to find you would be:
- Chiropractor in LA - Los Angeles Chiropractor - Chiropractor 90210 - Back doctor in LA - And etc.
This way you're only targeting local residents who may be in a need to see a chiropractor, and this is the best way to do it. Whenever someone types in one of these terms, your listing will show up, and from there it's up to you and business details to your prospect to call or set up an appointment on your website.
These are just a few ways to use the internet to generate leads in your target market. Make sure you have the correct address, phone number, and website so that visitors can contact you in the way that they prefer. This is a good way to get free leads online.
Good luck with marketing your offline business on the internet.
