If you owned a convention business the more people you can get through your doors the greater your chance of making money. The same goes for a website, the more visitors you get the greater change you have for a sale. So how do you get people to visit your website? Well first they must be able to find it.
One good way is to write articles. This is done by joining an ezine site. First you register with them, and then submit your articles. You don't have to be an expert. If you have products to sell, write about them. If you have a business you want to promote write about that. All you need to write is about 250 to 500 words. If you don't think you would be good at this just write about your experiences.
If this seems a daunting task look at some of the ezine sites and see what others are writing about. This can give you some ideas for your own articles.
Remember this is about marketing not selling so don't try to sell through your article. Let people develop confidence in you and what you have to say viar these articles. Attach a link at the bottom of your article to a landing (squeeze page) or your blog. This will give them allow them the choice on whether they want more information from you.
Another way is to contact other people who publish articles. Try exchanging articles. Best to do this with people who are not promoting the same products as you. This could also be done on your blogs.
There are lots of ezines out there and there is a big difference with them especially with the number of their subscriber.
Another good thing if you have a website that allows it is to trade links with other web sites. Find a site that does not sell the same product. Remember you want to gain business not loose it. You could also trade banners between your websites.
Also look for websites where you can advertise for free. Your success on these sites may not be as good as on pay sites, but it is best to start here first. There are a lot of free classified websites. You do need to consider where you want to sell your product, whether it is local, national or international. This would depend on your product and if there was any delivery cost involved.
An effective way to advertise is to give away freebies. The best freebie would be a free report or article, which could be downloaded. People love to get something for free. Just make sure your freebie does not cost you anything to give away. By giving away freebies you are attracting people to your website and increasing your adds exposure.
This builds a relationship with your potential customer. If they trust you and buy products from you, two other things will happen. First they will buy more products from you. Secondly they will refer you and your products to others. Wouldn't you say this is free advertising as well?
Start with one method and expand into others as you go along.
