Be honest. You've met him, you've heard him; he may be a relative, a co-worker, or just a casual friend. He's got the perfect deal for you and won't take "no" for an answer. He has the answer to every possible question you could ask. But, you didn't ask any. He didn't hear you say "NO". Why? It is because; he is in the hunting mode. He may have been taught it from his up line, read a book from the 1970's on how to sell, or just plain hasn't had any training. Either way he is headed for the NFL Club, which is "No Friends Left." He's chased them all away not realizing they may not have been prospects in the first place.
The sad thing is that with the right training and communication qualities, this person may have become very successful. He just didn't know the marketers out there making the big bucks aren't chasing people up and down the street, giving presentations in the backrooms of pizza parlors, or cornering their relatives at a family reunion. They're fishing from the comfort of their own home and leaving the hunting to the amateurs.
~~ REMEMBER~~
A novice hunts, while an expert fishes.
There's a huge difference between hunting and fishing. A hunter will go after something which is usually trying to get away. The chase continues until the hunter either gets tired, gives up or the prey gets away. Fishing, however, is very different. The fisherman sits on shore in a comfortable chair, sipping on a beverage and nibbling on some munchies. At his leisure he will cast out something on his hook that will be enticing to the fish. The fish bites and is hooked. In other words, the marketer has hooked a prospect because he had something they wanted.
The internet has become the newest tool in the MLM fisherman's tackle box. Now you can cast out your website or presentation in front of millions of prospects just looking for an opportunity such as yours.
~~SO WHY FISH INSTEAD OF HUNT~~
* Time
- hunting (miles to travel, away from family, set up for meetings, nights and weekends)
- fishing (at your convenience, as much or little time as you desire)
* Money
- hunting (cost of meeting rooms, travel, lunches, presentation materials, speakers, and possible time off from regular job)
- fishing (cost of phone and internet, small cost of snacks while working in comfort of own office)
* Target Market
- hunting (anyone will come to a meeting with possibility of free lunch, a friend didn't want to go alone so drug someone to go with to get your free samples)
- fishing (people interested in your specific products, wanting their own business, or interested in both)
* Duplication
- Hunting (takes time to do one-on-one training, possibly no training)
- fishing (use internet to have training website so all team members are doing the same successful things)
These are just a few good reasons to start fishing. As you get into it you'll come up with even more reasons. Remember that Network Marketing is a business. When you fish for prospects it then becomes a job of sorting and sifting. Matching the prospect to your company becomes vital. That's why it is important to have some key elements in your MLM tackle box.
A solid upstanding company
Products that you are proud to use and share with others
A squeeze or capture page
An information website
Support for training and questions
An auto-responder
Now that you've read this, I hope you decide to retire that rifle, back off of the hunting and take up some fishing. There is an ocean of prospects out there waiting for someone with the right bait to throw a line out their way. Good luck fishing!
P.S. By the way - there is no limit to how many prospects you can catch.
