Internet: Create a Popular Blog

(Thu May 5th, 2011, by jdugena)

If you only began blogging just recently, it is highly likely that you might not have that much readers.

For some, they may be blogging for years or months already but they find it difficult to gather traffic to their site. It is easy to feel frustrated if you churn out regular content for your site or blog but still have no loyal audience or followers.

Take note that not all blogs are made the same way. Believe it or not, there is actually someone who put up a blog and after merely weeks received as much as 4,000 readers per day. It helped that this someone is Guy Kawasaki and is a popular business speaker / author and has followers or bloggers who helped spread the word about his blogsite.

Unfortunately, you might not have the same popularity or followers as Guy has. Still, this is no excuse for you to expand or make your blog popular.

Take note that blogging could be likened to having your very own print newsletter. Firstly, you need to do the hard work of gathering images and content for your articles. As soon as the first issue is ready to be launched, it is time to make it known to everyone.

If you have zero budget for marketing or if you do not have the benefits of a PR firm, you need to do the marketing on your own. Unfortunately, this is the part where most bloggers fail. Despite quality content, very few bloggers have a good idea of how a blog could be marketed. A lot of them simply shoot haphazardly in any place just to gather traffic using random strategies. At times, they have no strategic technique, process or methodology.

The very first step to create traffic for your blog is to accept the fact that you need to work in order to gather traffic. It helps to know that you are responsible for your blog's popularity. Doing so allows you to step up to the plate and accept the burdens and benefits being accountable brings.

Do not forget that blog traffic starts by creating a piece that is a worthy read. Also, ensure that - once you have produced your blog - readers would want to go to your blog regularly.

Assess your blog and check if its content deserves the attention of your readers. If you just started your blog, traffic is not your major problem.  Your main concern should be writing good and quality articles.

Also, you need to have on your site an About Page which details who you are, what your blog is about and what your readers could expect from your blog. As much as possible, describe the benefits readers could have from your blog.

You should also have a Contact Page so readers will find it easy to contact you. Feel free to include your picture or your Skype name, Facebook account or Twitter.

Your blog should also have pillar articles or juicy, fat and solid articles which possess substance. These are worthy reads which informs your audience about topics which are relevant to your blog. Also, this must have original content.  Do not forget to be interesting, creative and inspirational.

Once you have setup your blog, it is time to pre-launch it. These are actions you take prior to actually launching your blog in order to build foundation for it.

The objective of a pre-launch is for you to not waste time unnecessarily marketing your blog in order to create traffic prior to anything being there. Remember, it is futile to sell a blank book.
