According to the Boston Globe, Oscar the kitty cat has "an uncanny instinct for death." Dr. David M. Dosa, assistant professor at the Brown University School of Medicine and a geriatric specialist at the nursing home where Oscar lives, downplays the wierdness of the situation by simply confirming of Oscar that "He attends deaths. He's pretty insistent on it."
Apparently in (only) the last hours of a patient's life, Oscar appears to snuggle up to the patient, and his purring can be heard as a low rumbling throughout the room. Oscar has held watch over the deaths of 25 patients in the two years he has lived at the nursing home.
"When death is near, Oscar nearly always appears at the last hour or so. Yet he shows no special interest in patients who are simply in poor shape, or even patients who may be dying but who still have a few days. Animal behavior experts have no explanation for Oscar's ability to sense imminent death. They theorize that he might detect some subtle change in metabolism -- felines are as acutely sensitive to smells as dogs -- but are stumped as to why he would show interest."
We here at Lazlo's Basement think it's pretty clear what's going on. This cat is killing people, and he must be stopped! For more information see Evil Cats of Doom and remember, Oscar's watching you.
