Any boat enthusiast who wants to build their own motor boat cannot go wrong with good runabout boat plans. This type of boat design is one of the most well rounded when it comes to small boat types.

Runabout boats are generally used for a variety of activity such as fishing or any other pleasure sport like water skiing. Likewise, it could also be used on large vessels as its ship tender.

Sizes of runabout boats varies. But generally runabouts refers to small motor boats which can hold a capacity of two to eight people. Which is why if you wish to buy or build your own boat of this design, size can be one of the primary consideration you need to go over before construction. The size of the boat would determine the budget which you are going to need in order to build the boat.

Another primary consideration in planning to build a runabout boat is the material which you will use to construct the boat. The most suitable material for this type of boat design is lightweight materials like fiberglass. Fiberglass would make the most suitable material for a runabout boat due to its durability as well as its light weight. This is especially true if you want a boat specifically made for racing. However, there are also other alternative to fiberglass. Plywood is also one of the common materials used for this type of boat design.

As for the propulsion of the boat, you have the option of using jet drives, inboard or outboard engine or a combination of inboard/outboard engine. All of these power means have the advantage as well as disadvantages. For example, jet drives are generally easier to maneuver and more suited to shallow waters. However, it needs a larger engine thus it can be very costly in terms of fuel consumption.

I personally would choose a plan that has several images to illustrate the instruction to make the dimensions even more elaborate and easier to follow.
