The worst thing that can happen in the winter is having your boiler breaking down. You come home after a long commute in the cold, wanting to open the door into a warm house and have a nice bath, and all you can get is cold water and no heating.
A third of people in the UK find that this has happened to them this winter, or at some point in their life. And a boiler that isn't working properly can put a drain on your finances, costing you more in gas bills, not to mention being bad for the environment. But what should you do to prevent this? You need to make sure that you are covered in the event of a boiler malfunction. It means that should there be a problem, you won't be stuck with a massive bill for the repairs. You should only take cover out if you own the home, as if you rent a property then your landlord should ensure that your boiler is covered, in case of gas leaks.
Have a look to see how much the boiler would cost to repair if it went wrong, and compare this to the cost of the premiums. Obviously if the cost to fix the boiler is cheaper than the yearly premiums then avoid the cover. Likewise, if your energy company are offering a policy then make sure you shop around first. A lot of people feel pressured into the policy with their provider, but would find that if they shopped around then it would be much cheaper elsewhere.
Use a comparison site to find the best deal, and make sure that you are comparing policies that are like for like. Check things like the water damage cover and central heating checks, and go for the one that best covers all these things.
See if there is a limitation on the amount of call outs you can have, as any additional ones are often costly.
If you own a home in the UK then go online for Home Insurance to save yourself money for other repairs.
