Cellulite is a term that was adopted by the fitness industry to describe the appearance of a lumpy substance, resembling cottage cheese, which develops under the skin. Common areas for this bulged or waffled appearance is on the stomach, thighs, hips, and buttocks area. A major cause of cellulite is toxin and fat that builds up in the body, and can affect individuals of any size, weight and body structure.
One misconception is that people that are slender are immune from developing cellulite. This couldn't be further from the truth. There are plenty of individuals who are not overweight and yet are dealing with the reality that they fall under the cellulite population. This dimpled appearance is a cause of genetics in about 85-90% of women.
Cellulite is caused by fat that is pushed against the connective tissue beneath a person's skin. The swelling of the cells due to an increase in fat intake is what causes this rippled effect, which is hated by so many women. It is mostly found in women, although some men are also known to have it in the neck and abdomen area. It is less often found in men's bodies because they have a different fat distribution. Their connective tissues around their fat cells are stronger, and the skin is thicker.
Presently there is a market full of pills and gadgets that offer an overnight solution to the problem, but unfortunately, there is no magic cure for this dimpled appearance. Since cellulite is primarily caused by genetics, many women will never be able to free themselves from it. However, there are some things that can help improve the appearance of cellulite.
We must go back to basics now and target the problem the old fashion way. A consistent diet, which is low in fat and high in fiber, and is composed of lots of fruits and vegetables, is a good place to start. Although your cellulite may be a cause of genetics (if your mom had it, you will have it), and will stay with you forever like luggage, by eliminating or even reducing your fat intake you will be able to lessen the cottage cheese appearance.
Another important factor that can be used to reduce cellulite is exercise. You must be consistent with an exercise program that is composed of cardio exercises together with strength training. This is a sure way to get the best results. Your exercise program must consist of 30-45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times a week and strength training 3 times a week. Cardiovascular exercise is effective when you break a sweat and when you are feeling some resistance but can talk and breathe comfortably.
Examples of some cardio exercises are:
· Treadmill at an incline and a speed of 2.6-3.1, depending what feels comfortable to you.
· Running or jogging at a comfortable speed
· Fast pace walking or power walking
· Elliptical machine
· Stair master
Remember the key to target cellulite is consistency with diet and exercise. The faster you learn to apply these techniques into your everyday life the faster you will be able to improve your cellulite.
**You should not engage in physical exercise unless you have checked with your physician.
