What do back exercises have to do with somebody walking like Quasimoto? Well, everything actually. Simply put, if you don't pay attention to your back muscles, you're going to end up walking like some of the older folks - with your face towards the ground, about the fall forward at any second.
I'm not making fun of these people, in fact I feel quite badly for them and I personally know a few people unfortunate enough to experience this, I'm just trying to prove a point.
Fortunately for me, back exercises have always been fun for me to perform. I guess growing up climbing trees for the first 15 years of my life contributes a little to that.
But as I'm getting a little older, I'm realizing that having a strong back is essential to living a healthy life. Just think about what you hear your friends complain about most when it comes to their health. About 90% of the time I hear somebody complain about pain, it's coming from their back.
So now the question is, why do so many people have back problems? Well, the answer lies in the daily lifestyles of people today. They sit at a desk all day long, eat junk food all day, then go home and plop down on the couch to watch TV while they gorge down a huge fatty meal. Whenever they're sitting, they're slouching over like a big hairy sloth.
Notice that in that paragraph, they did nothing to prevent back pain. Yet they complain that they don't know why they have such bad pain in their backs, typically in the lower part of it.
There are 2 main reasons for back pain, both of which most people "don't have enough time" to take care of.
- Flexibility - When your back muscles are tight, it often makes the muscles, ligaments, and disks in your back get pushed together. Anytime there is tightness in the back, there is an increased chance of injury and pain. This holds true for every other part of the body as well.
- Strength - Most people have extremely weak lower backs. They also have very weak stomach muscles as well. Together, these 2 parts of the body make up the "core", which is where a lot of your strength comes from. If this section is weak, the muscles have a hard time holding up the top half of the body, which leads to pain in the lower back.
If you're lacking either of these 2, you're bound to have lower back problems for the rest of your life. If you'd like to start living a life that's free of lower back pain, I suggest you do something now to reverse the process and start getting in better shape.
