If you have not figured it out most of us Americans are paying more for health insurance each year. Included with that we are getting reduced coverage and services for the higher premiums that we pay. With premiums skyrocketing these days its getting harder to afford health insurance and I think the out-of-pocket is what's killing us.
Year after year inflating deductibles and copayments are making more difficult to maintain coverage. Out-of-pocket expenses can be a significant amount of money at onetime for most of us on a fixed salary. This puts us in compromising positions and that sometimes forces us to make decisions we don't want to make.
These unexpected costly out-of-pocket expenses along with maintaining our premiums is a major setback for most of us Americans. This is how it begins to back fire on people, families or individuals. We start to develop a mass of medical bills and before we know it a massive amount of debt. I know of people that will even start to avoid any treatment for problems they are having to keep from having to pay. Kind of like a domino affect, you just keep falling down.
I read a story that health insurance reform may save some of us Americans by limiting the amount that those of us with insurance have to pay out of their own pocket for health care. I really need to learn more about it and I encourage everyone to do the same. If this were to happen it would certainly help American households that pay a healthy portion of their income on health care out-of-pocket expenses. Now how can you be against that?
I have learned by not having the right coverage eventually leads to high out-of-pocket costs. Not having the right coverage for you or your family can come in many forms, a high deductible, a high co-payment, and if you don't read between the fine lines various restrictions on benefits. All this makes it's mark on making health care unaffordable for us. Lets hope the government continues to push reform I believe it will be good for all Americans.
