The cast and crew of Ugly Betty celebrated the series' first-season DVD release on Monday. However, the excitement was more because they were part of a hit show and looking forward to its return in the fall.
"It's nice, for me at least, to look back and think, 'Wow, this has been such an incredible year,'" America Ferrera, Emmy nominee for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, said in a conversation with the Associated Press. "There has been so much blood, sweat and tears of happiness and tiredness and joy and all of that put into it."
Ugly Betty is an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Yo Soy Betty La Fea and chronicles the adventures of a woman named Betty (America Ferrera), who suddenly becomes the assistant of editor and playboy Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius). The show's first season was an instant success since its debut last fall, and has been renewed for a second season in March.
While on the red carpet of Mondrian Hotel's Skybar in Hollywood, the show's stars spilled some details about Ugly Betty's second season. The viewers can expect Betty to "grow up a lot" in season 2 or even move out of her father's house, as told by America Ferrera to the Associated Press.
Mabius said to expect Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham and Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under) as the second season's guest stars as Beckham's episode will be filmed soon.
Playing Betty's older sister, Hilda is Ana Ortiz, who said that her character will be dating and job-hunting.
Ugly Betty ended its first season with a lot of questions yet to answer. For instance, Rebecca Romjin's character, Alexis Meade, who met an accident. However, Romjin assured fans that her character will be alive in season 2.
The end of season 2 also saw Henry (Christopher Gorham) and his pregnant girlfriend, Charlie boarding a plane to Arizona. However, Charlie was formerly involved with another man, thus the identity of the baby's father is not certain.
"Well, there is a pretty good chance that Henry comes back," Gorham said to the Associated Press. "I can't tell you how he comes back. I can tell you that you cannot miss the first five minutes of the first episode of season two. It's one of the funniest scenes that we have shot to date. It's a Betty, Henry, Charlie scene. It's subtitled. It's really incredible."
Ugly Betty's season 2 fills TV screens on September 27.
