Education: Student Response Systems Make Communication Easier

(Tue May 10th, 2011, by Phil Adams-Wright)

Communication is extremely important in life and this is something that is very true in school.  There is a generation gap between pupils and teachers but there is a huge need to bridge this gap and ensure that both sides are able to get their point across.  One of the best things about the rise in communication products and classroom technology is that there are now more ways than ever before to communicate and this is helping people in the learning environment.

Most school children are comfortable with technological products so using these products to allow them to interact with each other and their teacher is something that a greater number of schools are looking into.  There is obviously a financial consideration to be made about these products but if it is within the school's budget, it should be seriously considered due to the great benefits that they bring to a classroom.

The response of a child is extremely important in the classroom environment and this is where student response systems come in extremely useful.  There can often be a number of distractions which may prevent pupils from getting their point across properly or they may be issues which prevent a teacher from realising what is being said to them.  The proper use of the student response system product should help to minimise these problems in communication, allowing for clearer answers and responses to be made.

This in turn allows a teacher to make a better judgment on the knowledge of the class and on the effectiveness of their teaching methods.  It is easy to think that everything in the classroom environment is geared towards evaluating the pupil but there is also a strong need to evaluate the teacher as well and this is something that the student response systems can help with.  Some individuals or smaller groups of students may be struggling to follow the material being covered and feel shy about asking for help or to go over a subject again.  Using student response systems allows teachers to discretely see which students are struggling and can cover subjects again to help everyone get to the same level but also maintain the class' confidence on an individual basis.

One of the best things about the student response systems is that they operate on a wireless basis.  You can imagine how a class full of wires would be for pupils and it would sooner or later lead to an accident.  This is not the case with the majority of the student response systems allowing each pupil in a classroom to interact properly and without interruption. This sort of system is only as good as its connectivity but teachers have nothing to worry about on this matter. Even the busiest of classrooms are able to use these products without problem or cross-communication.

Getting student response systems in the classroom can be a really positive change for educators, being able to effectively see where each student is up to and identify weak points by using this educational technology has been a real boost for schools, colleges and even universities.
