Education: Student Response Systems Can Aid Pupil's Development

(Tue May 10th, 2011, by Phil Adams-Wright)

Even though there may have been a lot of technological classroom products in previous generations, it is nothing compared to what is available now.  The modern era of school pupils are faced with more technology than ever before and this will hopefully help them to feel more confident in school.

After all, the modern era of pupils is the one that should feel most at ease with technology given that they are surrounded by it wherever they go.  There is no doubt that technology is becoming far more common in modern life and it would be rare to go through a day or even a couple of hours without using some form of modern product.  This is where using these products in the educational setting can help to make a massive difference to how pupils feel and how they interact.

One of the best ways to allow pupils to interact in class is to allow them to use student response systems.  These are excellent when having pop quizzes as it allows teachers to see the genuine response of every child on their computer screen.  There is no need for pupils to be told these answers if there is no requirement to but it can allow teachers to evaluate their class and even their own working methods.

If a particular question or topic has received a lot of wrong answers, it may be that pupils are struggling with the topic.  Providing further guidance on the topic may resolve any these issues and help the development of the class.  Using classroom technology is all well and good but it has to be done with a purpose and goal in mind.  Using technology because it is there or because a school has a budget to spend is no real reason for using technology at all but if it can be used to provide assistance to pupils then it is something that should be used as often as possible.

There is no doubt that the use of student response systems can help to develop confidence in pupils and remove them from peer pressure decisions which may impact on which answers they may provide.  Anything which can help school children provide correct answers and develop a confidence in their own level of knowledge has to be worth considering and this is something that student response systems can greatly help with.  Although the education process should set out to impart wisdom and knowledge to pupils, it should also aim to help with their social development.

The introduction of student response systems and other educational technology has helped people to be able to learn quicker and become more involved in their studies as opposed to purely reading from books or lectures.

The Reasons Why Interactive Whiteboards Are Being Attacked

1 in 7 classrooms worldwide are predicted to have an interactive whiteboard by the end of 2011, and as the number of classrooms with interactive whiteboards increases, so does the debate over their usefulness. Below I offer a list of the main arguments against IWBs and my responses.
