This ITIL exam preparation web site and course are an invaluable study aid for passing the ITIL Foundation exam.
I've been an IT project manager for over 10 years. I've studied ITIL study materials in preparation, but took no courses or workshops. I studied this web site and its accompanying books for 10 days immediately preceeding my exam. Read a book about 3 times.
ITIL is a very dry subject. But, education providers should make it more interesting. This web site certainly does not do a good job of that. It's presentation is clear. Examples are good. There are quite a few ITIL topics to study. To make things better, it covers various IT topics, everything needed for the success in real IT world.
I took the ITIL Foundation exam and got 98% of the question correct. I think that the study tips in the ITIL certification web site and course helped me get about 15-20 questions right that I might have otherwise missed. (your mileage may vary). About half of the questions I missed were due to the test's wording which is tricky.
The true value of the ITIL study materials is that it does a good job of encapsulating the processes from the 8 volumes from which it is derived and turning them into a thoughtful treatment of the "foundations" of ITIL. The author is also enthusiastic about the structure and inter-relationships of the processes and how they work together to provide a model for the IT department to be successful, responsive to the business and show its value. But the subjects could have been organization in a tree structure with better readability - and the resulting efficiency of the knowledge transfer process - could have been improved through better editing of the site.
On a continued note about the editing, the web site is sprinkled with insights from the author. These insights were dispersed among the pages, sometimes offering some golden nuggets, but more often just interrupting the flow of the topic being discussed and I found them distracting. The points that were plunked in would have provided better value had they been made by weaving them into the "story" of the site.
The web site and books made me confident in sitting the exam, and is the best such ITIL website that I've come across.
The ITIL study materials are broad, with alot of content to cover, but worth it especially since your have access to the online learning component and ITIL exam preparation as well. ITIL Training Videos help you grasp the subjects in better ways.
Good focus on ITIL's processes (things important to ITIL Foundation and passing the test that your experience in IT may not help you)
