| Education: Educational Technology Can Help Teachers Be Heard (Tue May 10th, 2011, by Phil Adams-Wright) |
Every teacher will have their own style of communication and interaction with pupils. Some will be loud and seemingly aggressive, hoping that their pupils will be disciplined and pay attention the study plans. Other teachers are softer and hope to get pupils attention by showing them respect. Either way is of benefit but there is a definite need for teachers to be heard by their class. This is indicative of the importance of communication and without the ability to inform their pupils with clear instructions; a teacher will find themselves struggling to keep control of a class and to apply a proper study plan.
Thankfully, educational technology can provide a helping hand to teachers who sometimes struggle to make themselves heard in a busy classroom. Some class room sizes can be extremely large these days and this can negatively impact on a teacher's ability to communicate properly with their class. Some teachers do not have a strong voice and they can often find that pupils at the back of a classroom fail to hear their instructions.
Being able to use educational technology products that allow them to amplify their voice provides a great benefit to any teacher and should help them get their message across effectively. The great thing about using this sort of microphone is that a teacher can still retain control over the tone and overall volume of their voice, there just happens to be a general amplification of their voice.
The same educational technology can be used by pupils who are giving presentations to their peers. Speaking in front of fellow classmates can be a nerve-racking time for many pupils and one of the biggest concerns is over the inability to be heard. Using a microphone will allow even the quietest of pupils to have their say in front of a class without feeling embarrassed or that their voice is not travelling well.
Anything which can boost pupil's confidence when speaking in public is likely to have great long term benefits. Many pupils will need public speaking skills in later life and learning at an early age that there is nothing to be afraid of in standing in front of others and talking is a worthwhile lesson to learn at an early age. This is one clear area where educational technology can make a big difference in the development of children and hopefully allow them to see benefits throughout the rest of their life.
Education technology is quickly becoming something all schools and places of learning are looking into to help their pupils and their teaching staff to perform well. Check out products such as interactive whiteboards and other learning aids to see whether your students could benefit from these innovative products.
