Education: Classroom Technology Can Get the Message Across

(Tue May 10th, 2011, by Phil Adams-Wright)

Sometimes it can be difficult for a teacher to get their message across to an entire classroom, even when the children are being silent and well behaved.  There may be background noise in the school or the teacher may be very softly spoken.  Some pupils may have hearing problems and if they are seated at the back of the classroom, they may find it difficult to focus on what the teacher is saying.  This may be mistaken for a daydreaming quality but in reality, there may be a genuine reason why a pupil is unable to follow the teachings of the class.  Of course, if this is the situation for a classroom, the situation for a lecture theatre or assembly must be even more difficult.  Thankfully, there are classroom technology products which can help teachers get their point across like never before.

Audio equipment can allow teachers to speak into a microphone and have it transferred to all four corners of a room with clarity and power.  Although teachers are taught to project their voice and have different tones to get their message across, it can be difficult for some teachers to communicate with all the class.  Just like every pupil is different, every teacher is different in the way they communicate and speaking very loudly is not in the nature of every teacher.  This is no bad thing and if a teacher only speaks with a raised voice, they are likely to lose any impact they have in speaking in this manner.

Having the ability to have your voice amplified allows a teacher to take control of the classroom while using a variety of different tones and volume.  If a teacher is trying to calm their class down, dropping their voice to a whisper is a very effective technique because it forces the pupils to be quiet in order to speak to them.  There will be times when a teacher has to use a commanding voice in order to grab attention and ensure that all eyes and ears are on them.  Having this variety is the best way to keep pupils on their toes in the classroom and using technological products to achieve this can make life a lot easier for a teacher.

Continually talking loud can lead to a straining of the vocal chords, which could eventually lead to a loss of voice for a teacher.  This is where classroom technology products can help to keep them in control and without at risk of injury but also maintain the entire class' focus on what is happening on the board, screen or any other technology product being used.

Classroom technology can help enhance learning in schools, colleges and universities with plenty of educational technology now becoming more frequently used by teachers teaching young children, all the way up to fully grown adults.

The Reasons Why Interactive Whiteboards Are Being Attacked

1 in 7 classrooms worldwide are predicted to have an interactive whiteboard by the end of 2011, and as the number of classrooms with interactive whiteboards increases, so does the debate over their usefulness. Below I offer a list of the main arguments against IWBs and my responses.
