Colors and graphics can greatly enhance a menu printing job, but can clutter the main message when the fluff is overblown. Keeping a menu sharp and eye-catching is only a best practice if the unit still fulfills its primary duty. The graphics on a menu can draw the diner to a particular item or section, though it will be the font and printed descriptions that lead to direct sales. Ensuring that patrons get a clear description of their meals or enough information to prompt some questions for the waiter are the primary function of wording that accompanies any picture or graphic. For restaurants serving ethnic cuisine, pictures are a strong vehicle for communicating the ingredients of a dish with a foreign name.

Ultimately, all of the considerations that go into menu printing are best handled by professionals in the industry. Business owners who attempt to undertake too much of the process may find they are falling short of the menu's true potential. Professionals in the business of graphic design, marketing, advertising and publishing are all regularly consulted for restaurant menu printing. Working closely with designers is encouraged so that the business owner can provide valuable input through the creative process.
