Millions of people are looking to make money online every day. Of these millions of people, less than 0.01% will actually be successful in doing so. Why? Competition. Internet is heavily saturated with those competing to make money on the same concepts, products, services and ideas, it is nearly impossible for any of these competing businesses to thrive. In order to see any real monetary success online, your first step must be to come up with something original. Ask yourself what sets you apart? What makes what you have to offer so undeniable, so irresistible that it's a must have? What is it about your product or service that allows you to stand far above the rest? When you have valid answers for these questions, an internet marketing strategy will be much easier to construct.

  • Before you can make any money online, you must substantially research. Find out the online efforts of other companies within your niche. Use your creativity and technical knowledge to your advantage at all times. If there is a specialty you have or if there is someone you know with an online specialty, put it to use. Anything you can do to gain a little headway matters.

  • Do not underestimate the power of social networks. Social networks are the premium marketing tools of this day and age. If you haven't already, be sure to establish social networking accounts and create a following. Social networks are free and accessible tools that when utilized sufficiently can make a world of difference for your online money making ploy. Your friends and followers will likely be your first customers. Be sure to capitalize on those that are right at your fingertips. Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon are just a few to target.
  • Find out where your audience is. Visit blogs, forums and other websites that cater to your niche and see what's being said. Use these outlets to figure out what those that you are attempting to cater to want, need and are lacking. Find ways to fill in those voids. Ask questions. Join conversations. Become your own potential customer and tailor your online campaign to provide what it is you would need.
  • Seek out sites that you may be able to cross promote with. For example: if you are selling golf clubs, try partnering with a golf course. If you are a hair salon, think of cross promoting with a nail salon. You can't expect to make money online alone. Exhaust all possibilities and utilize all of your resources.
  • Budget.  It takes money to make money. It is predicted that it takes about $15,000 minimum your first year to successfully build and market your site.
