ECommerce: Best Practices for Effective Chinese Menu Printing

(Tue Apr 26th, 2011, by jv digital media)

Chinese food has become extremely popular as fare for take-out and casual dining. Restaurants in the business of preparing and serving Chinese food must use their menus as a functional tool to convey the offerings they serve and any promotional opportunities available. Since Chinese menu printing is likely to be useful to a regional demographic as well as any ethnic population within reasonable proximity, knowing the audience is imperative to completing a job with valuable, effective wording. Chinese menu printing that will incorporate a number of terms not immediately recognizable to English-speaking diners should include a description of such terms so that the patron is not left wondering what meals are being prepared.

Chinese menu printing is unique from that of other ethnic cuisines due to the different characters used in Chinese text. Whereas many restaurants serving ethnic foods can name the dishes with English or American-English terminology, restaurants serving authentic Chinese cuisine will likely use a combination of Chinese characters and English wording to describe the menu options. There may be patrons frequenting a Chinese restaurant who do not speak or read English at all. For that reason, incorporating both types of characters and language eliminates the potential of misunderstanding from any demographic.

Restaurants trying to bolster their business through marketing and advertisements can use their Chinese menu printing template to incorporate valuable coupons and sales. Take out menus are an excellent source of branding and marketing for establishments offering carry-out service. Many restaurants in the business of fast or casual dining will use a mix of flyers, brochures and magnets to ensure their customers can find their contact numbers and coupons with minimal difficulty. Placing advertisements and coupons in a localized periodical may be a good way to drive new business seeking savings into an establishment.

Chinese menu printing is a significant investment for a small establishment but can prove extremely valuable when executed professionally. The appearance and functionality of a restaurant menu for take-out or casual dining should be a reflection of quality the business owners intend to project. A good mix of durable and affordable products should be implemented to create lasting units that do not bust the budget of the establishment. For Chinese menu printing products that will be sent home with patrons, affordability should take precedence over durability. The menus that accompany take-out orders are valuable as a resource for contact information and coupons but will not likely be used many times for ordering. Menus kept at an establishment must stand up to continued use and abuse from diners and those perusing while waiting for take-out orders.
