One doesn't have to look too long at the huge numbers. Energy related fields will get almost $100 Billion to create 500, 000 jobs over the next few years. Heath related fields will receive $30 Billion. Childcare services for low income working families will get $2 Billion. Business will get over $10 Billion over the next decade to create jobs. No wonder the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities declared that "Together these proposals mean that low-income students and families on the brink of dropping out of their higher education plans can stay in, and that unemployed workers can choose retraining for a new job." Individual states are doing their part as well, especially those states hardest hit. They realize that some of the jobs lost in the past two years will probably not come back. To continue the state tax base, they must help displaced workers retrain for future employment. States have further helped their workers by, in some case, allowing them to continue receiving unemployment benefits while they are in school. Spend a little time researching on your own. Find your particular state's web site and look around there or call and talk to people there. Call and talk with people at the federal level. The point is that people are training now for the future. These people will be ready when things pick up - and they will pick up! Whether you are "underemployed," unemployed or have never worked, this is the best time to get an education. Tax credits are in place for next year, childcare is available, people are there to help and the money is available. All that's left is for you to get started.
