Communication: Canadian and US SlutWalk Rebels Against the Victimization of Women

(Wed May 11th, 2011, by rmharrington)

In a recent news article, a Canadian police officer came under fire for suggesting that the modern female dress code contributes to the risk factor of rape. His wording concluded that to avoid rape, women should "avoid dressing like sluts." This comment has prompted a global, group-SlutWalk in which many young women have deliberately classified themselves as "sluts." Does it make sense to believe that women can eliminate the victimization of women, by victimizing themselves?

Organized via the SlutWalk Facebook page, thousands of imprudent women throughout Canada and the U.S. gathered to participate in this parade of nonsense. They claim to be fighting to end the "victimization" of women. Yet they merely strengthen the officer's argument.

When arrogance combines with a willful determination to run amok, the results can be disastrous. It has nothing to do with the guilt of the rapists. Regardless of the victim's attire, or lack thereof, rapists are the perpetrators of a ghastly crime. Why trash yourself to prove an obvious point?

Believing All That You Read

According to research performed by the University of Minnesota Duluth, the majority of rapes are planned. The study claims that women do not incite men to rape, but rather that the rapists is responding to an opportunity that avails itself to those with a rapists mentality. The report declares, "Opportunity is the most important factor determining when a given rapist will rape." It goes on to confirm that rape is not limited to age, gender, physical type, or demeanor.

In the current Charlotte, N.C. newspaper, there is a great upheaval concerning two Muslim Imams that were recently prevented from remaining onboard a Charlotte bound airplane. "Pure discrimination," claims their attorney. Because they were dressed in traditional Muslim garb, an experienced pilot refused to lift off until after these men were removed from the airplane that was under his care.

In the real world, the cloths we wear do affect how other people perceive us, and how they react to us. It makes no difference whether the viewer is right or wrong. Political or moral correctness will not adjust the actions of the viewer; neither will arguments change their attitude.

This does not justify decisions that are based upon bias or preconceptions; it merely states an absolute fact. With all respect to the University of Minnesota Duluth, cloths, ethnic group, body shape, life style, religion, and gender do affect how others view us, respect us, and respond to us.

Modern society sexualizes the human body, females in specific. If this were not so, the pattern of modern movies and television would change focus. Advertisements would cease to center on sexual content, physical attraction, and the lust of eye candy. What sales is "what sales," and no amount of argument can change the facts. The evidence is self-proclaimed and self-supported. In our modern, non-Christian world, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life are the driving factors of human behavior.

Suspicion and Doubt

Crime victims are sometimes treated with suspicion and doubt. This is especially true in cases of rape or incest. In many situations, due to having put her or himself into an unsafe position or environment, the victim is viewed as a responsible participant. They are sometimes even considered the instigator of the rape.

They are claimed to be guilty of leading the rapists. They are charged with negligence and/or deliberate enticement, and they are humiliated for being a victim. Thus to prove a rape charge, the prey must go through an overwhelming ordeal of shame, blame, and relentless challenge from the accused and from the twisted leaders of a broken society.

It is not right. It is not just. It is merely a matter of living in an unfair world.

One website author dares to suggest that women who wear short skirts and low cut tops should not visit crack alleys during the late hours of the night. He is perhaps right. Though every person should have the right and the freedom to travel as he or she pleases and without fear of assault, common sense must prevail. Unless driven by abnormal circumstances, reasonable people avoid high-risk environments.

Such activity does not remove the offense of the rapists, or the robber, or the murderer. But neither does it protect the victim. An after the facts squeal of "injustice" makes no change in the fact that a crime occurred. Neither will it relieve the associated pain and suffering.

Facts

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 70% of all violent crimes committed against females involve people that the victim knew. Among male victims, this figure drops to 45%. For further details, see the 2009 release of http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/cv09.pdf.

Estimates suggest that only 55% of the sexual assaults against females are reported. Likewise, less than 10% of the males who are raped report the attack. This is based upon the National Crime Victimization Survey as reported in Wikipedia.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics article reports 126,000 rapes in the U.S. during the year 2009. Ninety-nine percent of the antagonists were male.

Easy Access To Mind-Bending Content

Listen to me ladies. I am not here to condemn you. Neither am I here to defend the acts of a sexual predator. In deed, I am the last person that can justify the actions of an out-of-control human being. I can attest that "good" men sometimes also slip into a period of darkness within their mind and soul.

Heed my warnings. Two wrongs never make a right. You would not carry a roast beef sandwich into a cage of hungry bears, even if you were fully clothed in state-of-the-art protective gear. Why do you insist on dressing in a manner that so foolishly denies the sin nature of mankind? It merely reinforces a viewpoint that is already popularized by the creators of entertainment, so called.

A spirit of uncleanness consumes this American nation. It assaults the minds of our children and our adults. Adult Entertainment is nothing but filth and trash bound up in a mature sounding title. The famous "PG-13" movie rating suggests that adults can better control the intake of moral trash than can a child. What a foolish manner of thinking is this.

Yet we permit daily wickedness to bend our concepts of right and wrong such that women are proud to brand themselves as "sluts." Reflect upon this amazing lack of maturity. Where is your common sense, dear child? Where is your shame? Where is your comprehension of evil?

The bible warns that women should adorn themselves in modest apparel, "with shamefacedness and sobriety". These are not words of foolishness. They reflect the essence of honor and godliness. No matter how much you wish to deny the sin nature of mankind, it does exist, and it affects every man, woman, and child. You need to grasp this simple truth: Ungodliness begets even more ungodliness.

Salvation does not remove our sinful nature. It merely brings us to a full awareness of its power and its wickedness. Then, through the inner strength of a new spiritual man, we begin to conquer the desires of the flesh. It is not an instantaneous battle. It is a lifetime war that will rage until the "perfect" is fully come. Be not an instrument from the wrong side of this battle.

Please, dear woman of the modern world, and yea even you who profess Christianity, have some mercy on your neighbors, and the young boys that pass you by, and the preachers alike. Dress with a bit of modesty. And if you do not know how to find godliness, or if you do not understand modesty, look around for a mature, sensible, Christian woman that can lead the way. You will know her by her manner of dress.

Show some respect for yourself.
